Last message!

This will be my last message because we are heading home tomorrow. We drove out to Cape Cod on Sunday and that was a disappointment. We did get to one of the beaches but the wind was icy cold and the water was freezing. Almost all of the seashore on the Cape is a national park and admission is charged. But we have a "Golden Ager" card that gives us free admission so that was not an issue. We did eat lunch at a wonderful seafood restaurant but the traffic was awful coming back off the cape. I'm so glad we don't live in this neck of the woods! Click here to see the beach we visited briefly.
We left there yesterday and are currently parked at a very nice KOA campground where we will stay until tomorrow. We are quite close to West Point Academy but probably will not do anything today because the weather is pretty dreary.
We leave here tomorrow and will be home by Friday, Lord willing.

It's been a few days since I posted any news so I will catch up tonight. On Thursday, we took a bus tour of Acadia National Park and it was really interesting. Our tour guide is a native of Bar Harbor and he really knew his history. Did you know that Martha Stewart lives in Bar Harbor? Her home is assessed at 9 million dollars! Our tour took us all the way to the top of Cadillace Mountain where we saw breathtaking views and experienced very high and cold winds! We also went by Eagle Lake which is the water supply for the entire area of Mt Desert Island and all the little towns on it. We learned a lot of history about this area on this tour. Very much worth the $$ we paid for it. I posted some pictures for you to see.
Then we spent Friday driving to our next destination....the Boston/Cape Cod area. We decided to stay in Middleboro rather than on Cape Cod because of its proximity to Boston. And the commuter train took us to Boston where we boarded the subway system and went to the Museum of Science. We also walked around in an area of downtown Boston known as Faneuil Hall Marketplace where there are a lot of little shops in the street and along the sidewalks and a lot of good restaurants. It was an interesting area but it was too hot to really enjoy it. I took a few pictures and posted them to my photo album. I also posted a picture of Nickie and Andy, a friend that she met on the internet several years ago and they finally got to meet. She helped us enormously with the subway system. We treated her to a couple of hours at the Museum of Science in return for her help. But we sure were ready to catch that commuter train back to the RV Park by 4:00. We literally walked our legs off! But in spite of the heat, we had a great time. Tomorrow we hope to drive out to Cape Cod for more of the wonderful ocean views we have been experiencing. If we are able to do this tomorrow (it will depend on the traffic situation..they say it can get really bad....4 hours to go 50 miles!) then we will leave on Monday and head for Mystic Harbor, Conn. Bar Harbor, Maine 9/5/07

Here we are at Bar Harbor, Maine. Actually, Bar Harbor is a town on an island known as "Mount Desert Island" and "desert" is pronounced like dessert. But what a beautiful island it is. Acadia National park is located here and boasts of having the highest mountain on the Atlantic coast of the US. This mountain is known as Cadillac Mountain and is about 1530 ft high. Last night we enjoyed another lobster meal. I like the Maine lobster much better than the stuff we had in New Brunswick. I posted a picture of the Lobster pound where we ate. Messy, but wonderful! Today we took a mini cruise of the harbor on the Sea Princess that had a naturalist tour guide giving us a verbal description of the area, which included a stop at Cranberry Island, a 200 year old lobster village. The entire cruise was about 3 hours and it was wonderful. We have been enjoying picture perfect weather since arriving. Tomorrow we will take a bus tour of the Acadia National Park. Hopewell Rocks 9/1/07 & 9/2/07

Yesterday we drove down to the Bay of Fundy and got there just as the tide was coming in so we could not walk out on the ocean floor but the admission price was good for two days so we went back this morning early enough to spend time actually walking on the ocean floor. These rock formations are simply amazing! We walked our feet off again today but it was an awesome experience. Click here to see some of the pictures we took.
Then, after we left there, we decided to drive over to Prince Edward Island. What a neat place this is! It's all about Ann of Green Gables...everywhere you go, it seems. To get there, you go over a nine mile bridge. The toll for the bridge is 40.00 but you only pay it when you leave. We took a scenic drive along the coast for about 20 miles until we got to a quaint little town called Victoria-by-the-sea which is big on lobster fishing. It was a beautiful drive but by the time we finally got back "home" we were so pooped from all the activity that we decided to stay here one more day and have a "do nothing" day. I will probably do some laundry and we may drive down to the beach which is very close by. We will decide tomorrow whether or not we want to go on to Nova Scotia on Tuesday, or just head for Maine. Personally, I have had about all I need of Canada. So we'll review the Nova Scotia Tourbook and make a decision tomorrow. But click here to see the pictures we took at Prince Edward Island.

Shediac, NB 8/31/07

Well, here we are at the "Lobster Capital of the World" or so they say here in Shediac. We certainly have seen a lot of seafood restaurants in this town. In fact, we ate at one tonight and had wonderful fish and chips and clam chowder. We will have lobster tomorrow.
Our drive from Edmunston to here today was safe and uneventful, although we passed several interesting landmarks. I wish we had enough time to stop at every one of them but simply could not. We passed the longest covered bridge in the country and we went through a town that claims to be the french fry capital of the world. This RV park is really nice and is right on the Shediac Bay. We are five minutes from Parlee Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. We drove over to it and took a few pictures there but most of the pics I took are right here at the campground. Click here to view them.
Tomorrow we will drive to the Bay of Fundy to watch the 40 high tides and hopefully walk on the ocean floor during low tide. Of course, I will take more pics.

Edmunston, New Brunswick

Finally we are back in "English speaking" territory! Although we enjoyed our brief visit to Quebec, we are glad to be back where we do not need an interpreter (for us, a dictionary) to understand the road signs! We are on our way to Shediac, NB where we will stay for the weekend. But here we are close to the US and will probably cross the border today to gas up my car and get a few supplies at American prices. Canadian prices are atrocious! It started raining here last night around bedtime and rained off & on all night. And it is still raining! Sure am glad we aren't here to do any sight-seeing! But I am hoping that this is not how the weather will be through the weekend! In other words, I hope this is not the same "front" that did such devastation to the midwest in terms of flooding! We can't pull in any TV stations here at the RV park and the satellite system won't work because of all the surrounding trees. But thank heavens for the internet! I checked the weather at Shediac and it is supposed to be nice until Monday.
When we stopped at the NB welcome center, we were informed that Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are putting on a concert in Moncton (a city not too far from Shediac). So just for the heck of it, we inquired about tickets. We were told that the admission is $165.00 PER PERSON! Needless to say, that is one concert we will not be going to!
I took a few pictures of the RV park where we are staying until Friday. It is lovely and peaceful here. The name of the river where the park is located is the Iroquois....really clear and gently flowing. There are lots of little stones on the bank and I tried skipping stones on the water like I used to do when I was a kid. But I have lost my knack....totally! So click here to see stuff!

Old Quebec Town 8/27/07

Once again, we walked our feet off today…. took a ferry (as passengers…left car in parking lot) across the St Lawrence River to Old Quebec City. There are so many interesting looking buildings there. So many statues and wonderful steeples. And we ate at a side walk café where we paid 6.00 for a hot dog & French fries. I can’t believe how expensive stuff is here. We paid 3.45 plus taxes for one small glass of beer! But it was a good day. Tomorrow we are driving back into the city to see the changing of the guard at the Parliament Building and an observation tower which boasts a breath-taking view of Quebec City and the surrounding area. We shall see.
We do not have wireless internet at our campsite unless we want to pay 10.00 per day! Ridiculous! But they do offer free internet using their DSL from a very nice desk area in their rec room. So that’s how it is. We will be leaving here on Wednesday and hopefully the next place will have wi-fi. We will be in New Brunswick. We’re told that wi-fi in Quebec is not all that common. I did buy a French-English dictionary just so that we could at least interpret the signs. Everything and I do mean everything is in French. I had to quess what the cashier was saying to me at the grocery store because she spoke absolutely no English! But groceries are the same in French as in English! JI am posting some pics taken today of Old Quebec City. I wish I could post more than I did because it is so interesting. But it takes so long to upload them to my web page.
